Mikayla, Austin, and Ethan’s mother died n 2007, when they were 5, 3, and 1 respectively. Mikayla recalled her mother’s love for animals, and chose a trip to the zoo with her brothers and cousins as her tradition. Austin remembered his mother’s love for flowers and the outdoors.
For his tradition, he chose to plant a garden with Roses and Calla Lillies– his mother’s favorites. At the end of a long day of planting, the kids wrote messages to their mother, tied them to green balloons, and sent them to Heaven. Ethan was too young to remember much about his mother, so he will adopt and participate in his brother Austin’s gardening tradition as a way to help him remain connected to his mother as he grows up.
