The Family Lives On Tradition Program brings comfort to grieving children and families by helping them continue cherished family traditions. Celebrating a unique experience the child had with their deceased parent, is a powerful holistic therapy that focuses on maintaining necessary emotional bonds with mom or dad, moving forward and into the future.
After Family Lives On receives an enrollment form from a family, our Family Service Coordinator and a trained volunteer will conduct a Skype “Family Meeting” with the children and surviving parent or guardian to discuss traditions that the child shared with his or her deceased parent. This process not only conveys to the family the value of remembering, but also helps the child/teen to choose a tradition that he wants to continue.
We serve all children ages 3-18 regardless of race, gender, religion, socioeconomic status, or the cause of the parent’s death.
Subject to program guidelines, Family Lives On arranges, pays for, and ships the items identified within the tradition request directly to the child on an annual basis for a period of 5 years or until he or she turns 18.
Throughout each year, Family Lives On staff will have 3 – 6 therapeutic touch points with every family. Not only are we facilitating their traditions, we are often a conduit to other grief support services.
